VMware Doubles Size of EVO:RAIL Clusters

VMware has doubled the number of virtual devices that can be configured using VMware EVO: RAIL software, ranging from four to eight of a total of 32 nodes in a single cluster.Mornay van der Walt, Vice EVO: RAIL Group VMware says that eventually EVO: lane change radically the focus of data center server to cases of hyper converged virtual devices.

"Instead of thinking in the server context, we are trying to make people embrace devices," said van der Walt. "The goal is to be able to climb using a series of reliable and repeatable processes."
In the third quarter of this year, van der Walt, said VMware expand the size of an EVO: RAIL Group making use of the newly introduced VMware vSphere 6 VMware virtualization and VSAN 6 platforms in order to provide even higher levels of scale .

Basically, he says, EVO: RAIL change the delivery model and consumption around the IT infrastructure in the data center. These devices are not only easier to scale, but also provide a noninvasive method for the introduction of patches and updates in the environment. As a result, the overall cost of maintaining data center environments is greatly reduced.

EVO: RAIL appliances are actually building blocks that IT organizations will have to rely to make the transition to the distribution of data center software defined depending him.Of course, as with any technology transition, There is a learning curve involved in the transition to EVO: RAIL. The worst that IT organizations can do, says van der Walt, you are treated as a server.

IT organizations must ensure that the network is configured properly before installation. But once you get past the initial deployment, each device can be configured to be automatically included in an existing cluster or be deployed as a basic element of a new EVO: RAIL lot.VMware is not the only supplier that paints a picture of a bright future SDDC. But in terms of IT skills management VMware it is clearly among those later. The challenge IT organizations to identify not only the speed at which you want to make the transition to a SDDC world but also how much they rely on a single vendor to get there.

Cisco, Chambers looking for one last shot at VMware?

Reports emerged last week that Cisco may be close to buying the implementation hyperconvergence Nutanix.Cisco CEO John Chambers is seeking to go out with a bang - one last big acquisition to paste converted rivals EMC and VMware partners.

Nutanix makes computer / storage, networking, virtualization and management products integrated to the data center running on x86 hardware. The private company, worth more than $ 2 billion, is recognized as the leader in the market for infrastructure hyperconverged, which was recently introduced by VMware with its EVO: RAIL product.

Other players SimpliVity hyperconvergence, which has a relationship with Cisco, maxta, Scale Computing ScaleIO, which was acquired by EMC and LeftHand Networks, which was acquired by HP. Product VRTX Dell is also considered a hyperconvergence solution.

Cisco plays on the converged infrastructure market through partnerships with EMC, VMware and NetApp. Converged Infrastructure is not as closely related as hyperconverged but includes pre-integrated server, storage, networking and virtualization systems.Other converged infrastructure players including Dell, Hitachi Data Systems, HP, IBM and agile storage.

Cisco, EMC and VMware are involved in a joint venture called VCE converged infrastructure, but the acquisition of Nicira network virtualization startup VMware started to unravel the relationship Cisco / VMware / EMC. Cisco is defeated least 10% of their investment in VCE, now an EMC company. After that, VCE has begun to offer products that incorporate networks based NSX Nicira VMware as an option for the application Centric Cisco infrastructure.

So Cisco and Chambers, was shot through the acquisition of new Nutanix says Rinderer. And partnerships with EMC storage Cisco, already tense, and NetApp continue damaged.Cisco said it does not comment on rumors or speculation. "" The deal could be announced at a conference of partners and customers Nutanix in early June

Citrix, VMware Assess The Future Of Desktop Virtualization

This week, both Citrix (CTX S) and VMware (VMW) described independently a future of desktop virtualization is mainly based on the cloud to simplify deployment and ongoing management of the virtual desktop.

Citrix Synergy 2015 Conference Citrix announced a public beta program for Citrix Cloud Workspace, an implementation of its desktop virtualization software which is based on a level of control hosted cloud to create modules consisting of everything from specific types of office to complete sets of services that can be provided to an end user through a few clicks of a button. Citrix Cloud Workspace is scheduled to be generally available in the third quarter.

The goal, said Natalie Lambert, senior director of product marketing at Citrix, is to give IT organizations more control over the desktop environment in a way that still allows to quickly respond to changing end-user needs quickly.

Besides the development of the Citrix Cloud workspace, Citrix also makes it easier to migrate to the latest versions of XenApp and XenDesktop. Earlier this year, the company launched a beta version of XenApp Update Service, a web-based tool cloud that gathers information on configurations and XenApp and XenDesktop settings automatically generates a script to migrate settings in the new XenApp environment.

Citrix said that although the service is still in beta, over 36,000 applications have been migrated to XenApp 7. An updated beta version will be available this quarter, apparently, will be easier to create models that can be used to help automate the migration process.

As part of a recognition that many customers are caught between refresh cycles, Citrix also released an update to XenApp 6.5 that makes most of the functionality of XenApp 7.6 is currently available to its customers. Citrix also said it is now extending the end of maintenance (MOE) for XenApp 6.5 2008R2 until the end of 2017.

Finally, Citrix showed an update of its Citrix Receiver software that unifies desktop and mobile computing experience through tighter integration with Citrix Storefront shop 3.0 applications.

Meanwhile, VMware has used the approach to desktop virtualization this week to reveal the existence of an Enzo project, currently under development. Sumit Dhawan, senior vice president and general manager, desktop products for End User Computing division of VMware, said the EMC business unit also works to transform the management of virtual desktops and applications via the cloud.

In this case, VMware centralizes management of their virtual desktops through a control plan that is hosted on VMware vCloud Air platform. VMware software intelligent node will be displayed in a convergence device EVO hyper-RAIL or server to create an instance of the desktop master IT environment that can be cloned several times and distributed at will.

Dhawan says that ability of a process that once took days and weeks about 20 minutes to provide up to 20,000 virtual desktops will be reduced. In addition, says Dhawan, an approach to "just in time" to manage desktops means no more be a necessity for the oversupply of IT infrastructure to support IT environments of virtual office.

The end result, Dhawan said, is not only a single pane of glass to manage the entire virtual desktop environment, but also the elimination of changes due to new streaming capabilities earlier in the commitment to environment.

While VMware is not committed to a delivery date for the Enzo project, Dhawan said VMware expects up to 20 percent to 25 percent of all desktops to become virtualized. In comparison, currently less than 10 percent of desktops are virtual.

VMware and Citrix freely admit that the complexity of managing the desktop virtualization has greatly limited its adoption. But now, before you run multiple versions of Windows and the number of mobile computing devices that run on different operating systems, IT organizations seem more in the mood for at least re-evaluate your options. For solution providers, this means there is an opportunity to start a conversation now on the relief of a sore spot for many IT organizations.

Google, VMware, and Red Hat Just Joined Together to Kneecap Red-hot Startup Docker

It is so predictable, you can set your watch by it.

First, a company launches a product so popular that the exchange of industry (like the iPhone). So there is a reaction, results in a product that competitor billed as more open than the original product (like Android) white. If the proceeds from that competitor is the ICT market, the two are often a kind of competitive balance.

Ultimately, users have more options-which is a good thing.

This is what is happening today in the world of software containers, Which sounds almost as fun as watching paint dry, grows fast and objectives has the potential to be a great market. These are companies that contribute to the realization of huge cost savings through more efficient management of their IT infrastructure. Even Microsoft has joined the fun with own container technology disputes.
Docker, the company that essentially invented the market recently raised $ 95 million a monster round of financing and is maneuvering to monopolize the market by selling not only the base container technology, the goal aussi everything else you need to do work on large scales.

In our metaphor, Docker is the iPhone.

The competition comes in the form of CoreOS, used to be friends with Docker before the two companies had a public falling out last year. CoreOS thought Docker exercised too much control over the container market, and launched "appc," a competing standard that promises CoreOS will be driven less by any enterprise and by the community of developers who use it.
In our metaphor, is appc Android.

The last time we heard CoreOS it had raised its own round of financing with participation from Google Ventures. At CoreOS Fest event today in San Francisco, the company announced that Google, VMware, Red Hat, and Apcera all signed to support appc in their own software. This means that developers can use either or Docker appc to their own preference in one of these clouds.

CEO and cofounder Alexis Dust Post says his company sells the idea of "gift" or "the Google infrastructure for everyone." Google has long been using containers to maximize their own efficiency behind the scenes, and said Polvi that the time has come for everyone to do the same. Docker APPC supports containers, and their own, which means that developers do not have to choose. They can not use. means no reason for sellers to not to adopt the standard. Dockers momentum will be difficult to stop. But a handful of major technology companies to come together to offer a viable alternative should give pause warm start.
